Membership
The Huddersfield Canal Society enjoys support from all over the country, not only from restoration enthusiasts and boaters, but from those who can see the need for improvements and the wider benefits to local communities. This support has been maintained since the 1970's and continues as the Society changes direction to its new role. Members are kept informed of what's going on via the Society's award winning journal 'Pennine Link'.
Volunteers
Becoming a member of H.C.S. does not automatically mean you will be obliged to take part in volunteer activities, far from it. Age or distance are sometimes a limiting factor anyway. Armchair support is just as valuable along with subscription fees. The Society did not achieve what it has today without having support from members from a variety of backgrounds.
Click here for more details of the work done by our volunteers.
Most volunteer activities take place at weekends, however, some do take place during the week, such as boat trips for schools. The Society can usually accommodate most members availability. No experience is required as training will be given.
Canal Schemes
For those wishing to get physically involved there are a number of activities from canal enhancement schemes to general maintenance.
Trip Boats
The Society operates trips boats at Ashton and at Marsden. Full training is given with some members going on to qualify for the prestigious Boatmaster's Licence.
